Description of the chalet : Opening : Chalet unkeeped, except during summer. Booking is compulsory and taken in order of subscription. Dortoirs : 44 beds during summer, located in 2 dormitories and in 3 bedrooms of 8 beds each. During winter, only dormitories are opened, capacity of 20 beds. Mattress and blankets are available, sleeping bag recommended. Kitchen : Equipped with a cook stove and a wood stove, a propane cooker, cold water at the sink and hot water when there is a housekeeper in the chalet. Common room : For 32 people, chimney Lighting : Solar lightening. Take some flashlights (essential during winter). Bathrooms: 1 outdoor toilet accessible during all seasons, 1 indoor toilet only available during summer. Washbasins and showers. Hot water during summer. To get the keys : When the chalet is unkeeped, keys will be given for presentation of your reservation voucher, your up to date Amis de la Nature card, your identity papers, and 20€ for guarantee. The keys are to be picked up at the Café de la Mairie in Vacheresse, to Mrs Tagand Isabelle. Attention : please before going at the Café, give a call to be sure someone will be there (04.50.73.14.18 ). Location and access : The refuge is located at Ubine on the site of Vacheresse, and belongs to the association Les Amis de la Nature. Means of access from Thonon-les-Bains : Drive along D902 to the skiing resorts of Morzine, Avoriaz, Châtel, Abondance up to the Pont de Bioge (The Bioge bridge) (11 kms). Then drive up D 22 to Châtel, at the entrance of Vacheresse village (9 kms) turn left and drive up to Villard (follow the signs Bise, Ubine, football stadium (= stade de football). At the first bridge in the north east = Vallon de l'Eau Noire (1211m) turn right: the tarred road is steep and will lead you up to the Ubine cottages. Be careful the road is narrow, driving is only allowed from May to September. Access during winter : During winter, you can reach the chalet by foot, with rakets, or with skis within 2 or 3 hours (8km) depending on the snow cover. Starting point is located at La Revenette, approx 1 km far from Vacheresse village. Maps : - Map Michelin n° 92 - Map IGN Top 25: 3528ET - GPS UTM Zone 32T 0326240 / 5130630 Transports : The train station is at Thonon les Bains Buses: Thonon / Châtel with SAT buses Information: Place des Arts in Thonon (04.50.71.85.55) Sites and walks : There is a great number of possible walks in the high mountain pastures from the refuge : Pointe d'Autigny, Mont Jorat, Mont Chauffé, Col d'Ubine, Pointe de Lachau, Pas de la Bosse, Cornettes de Bise...and mountain bike trails. You can also visit Abondance, its valley and also its villages. The border with Switzerland is about 20 kms far.
